MS. FIELD’S CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
These are my classroom rules/expectations. Please make sure to read through them carefully.
Parents/guardians must complete the Signature Form for this expectation sheet. Please click on the link at the bottom of the page after reading. · Respect- This is the number one expectation that I have in my classroom. Before, during, and after class, anytime you are in my room, I expect you to show respect for each other, for all items in my room, for me, and for yourself · My space/your space- just like you would expect me to not rummage through your purse or backpack, I expect you to leave my things alone. I do not want you sitting at my desk, using my computer, getting Chromebooks, writing on my boards, or going through my cabinets without permission. There are spaces in the classroom that are yours and spaces that are mine. · Cell phones- Cell phones must be on SILENT in my classroom. (NOT VIBRATE) They must also be placed completely out of sight. From time to time, I will allow/ask you to use your cell phone in class. If I SEE or HEAR your phone any other time, I will take it away and send it to the office. · Extra Credit- Some opportunities for extra credit will be offered throughout the semester. I encourage all students to take advantage of these opportunities when they arise. I will not create extra credit assignments just because a student has an unsatisfactory grade. The purpose of extra credit is to build a cushion, not to fix a problem. · Extra help- I am more than happy to spend time with any student if I am available before or after school, during my free period, or during lunch. Students must contact me at least one day in advance to schedule time for extra help.
Paperless Classroom Most activities and assignments we do will be online. All of our online assignments will be posted in Google Classroom. It is important that students and parents check the Google Classroom on a regular basis for all class information. (I HIGHLY recommend that this is done DAILY.) Students will have access to Chromebooks in the classroom. I will write library passes for study halls if a student indicates which assignment he/she will be working on. My classroom is available before and after school on most days, as well as during my plan period (hour) and my lunch period ( hour). The public library also offers free internet and computer use. It is assumed that each student has internet access at home or through his/her phone. If this is not the case, I must be notified by the student’s parents. Please note: “My internet was down.” is NOT a valid excuse for not completing an assignment. Students must make every effort to complete assignments on time for full credit. In worst-case situations, this may even involve hand-writing the assignment or coming to school early on the day it is due in order to complete it on time. Because most assignments will be completed online, it is mandatory that students understand and correctly set the “share settings” for certain assignments (I will let you know if this is the case). If a document's share settings do not give me full access to the document, I cannot view it and therefore cannot grade it. If I do not have access to an assignment it will be considered incomplete at the time it was submitted. It is ALWAYS the students’ responsibility to properly manage each document’s share settings.
Late Work Assignments may be submitted one day late (from the beginning of your class period) for 50% credit of the earned grade. This is per the approved English Department Policy. If an assignment is completed but not “turned in” in Google Classroom, that assignment will be treated as incomplete, and will automatically be labeled as such. Students MUST make sure that share settings on all assignments are set properly to give me full access to each assignment. If I do not have access to an assignment, it will be considered incomplete-no exceptions. (In a non-paperless classroom, this would be equivalent to expecting me to grade an assignment that is sitting in your locker.) Any late paper assignments, must be turned in to the late work tray on my desk within one day for half credit.
Absent Work Absent work must be completed and turned in through Google Classroom. Absent assignments will show as “late” in Classroom. In order to get full credit, students must leave me a private comment on the assignment post in Google Classroom. If this is not done within the appropriate time frame, the assignment will be graded as late. Students have one day for each day absent to complete and submit assignments. If a student is present on the day an assignment was assigned, that assignment is due on the actual due date. If a student is absent on a due date, the assignment is due the day the student returns, BEFORE his/her class period begins. Students MUST make sure that share settings on all assignments are set properly to give me full access to each assignment. If I do not have access to an assignment, it will be considered incomplete-no exceptions. (In a non-paperless classroom, this would be equivalent to expecting me to grade an assignment that is sitting in your locker.) Any paper assignments must be turned in to the absent work tray on my desk. NOTE: I highly recommend checking the website for assignments while you are home/absent. If you do, you can complete the assignment(s) as if you were sitting in class. You will not fall behind, your assignment will not show up as “late,” and you will not have to leave me a private comment.
Quizzes and Tests It is the responsibility of each student to set up a time (outside of class time) to come and make up any missed tests or quizzes.
Materials for class- I expect students to bring the following items to class EVERY DAY: -At least one working writing utensil - Binder with dividers - Loose leaf paper/some kind of lined paper -Textbook(s)- Most of the time, we will be working with one particular textbook. I do not have extras. You do not need to bring the textbook to class. Almost all of our reading will be online. -Notebook- All notes will be taken first in a paper notebook and then transferred to an electronic document. A notebook for my class only (or a section of a bigger notebook) must be brought to class every day.
(This form is to be completed by the parent/guardian of the student, with the assistance of the student if necessary. Students-if it is ever determined that you completed this form without the consent/approval of your parent/guardian, you may face disciplinary action.)
